>> ama: we are following breaking news from the san mateo bridge where there has been a major fire involving a limousine. this is a live picture of the bridge where you can see traffic in both directions, all westbound lanes are closed. you see traffic starting to back up. the fire happened on the decline on the san mateo county side, and we have an officer with the chp on the phone to tell us more about what happened and did this start with an accident, officer? >> it developed here there was a collision involved. all we know right now is somehow the fire started, and we do know that there are multiple fatilities in the limousine. >> any idea how many people were trapped inside?

>> we know at it multiple but don't know how many. and probably take a little while before we know for sure. >> what is the situation right now? is the fire still being worked nonwe can't exactly tell. >> i'm not at the scene but i will be more than happy to give you more information. >> perfect. so there was a limo that was on fire and several fatilities reported. you guys have issued a g alert. freeway the freeway closed, the westbound lanes, for three or four hours. >> yes. >> officer, thank you so much for joining us and giving us that information on what you know about what happened on the san mateo bridge, westbound closed after a fire involving a limousine. heard the officer say several fatalities. we're just hearing five confirmed dead. five people dead in the

limousine fire. they have itch you'd a sig alert for the bridge, advising motorists to are void highway 92. we have several news crews headed to the scene and they'll bring us more information. so we'll bring you a live report, but again, as we just told you, and heard from the chp, several fatilities. five people dead after a limousine fire on highway 92 in the san mateo bridge. we'll get back to that. >> a fire in san ramon destroyed oned husband -- house and firefighters are looking for a cause. reporter: just about everyone saw this house burst into flames. smoke billowed out of the house and that could be seep for miles. that's where julia hall was when she spotted the moch. >> i said, is it our house? and they said yes.

>> the house she spent 25 years in was burping, quickly disappearing before her eyes, and the fire spread from her home to her neighbor's house. >> appears the fire started in the carportthe two houses, ran up the side of the house and then g o the attic of both houses. >> the neighbor who is on vacation, only had damage to the garage and attic. the bankrupt of the -- the brunt of the fire was here-and at one point the house was so unstable firefighters pulled out. >> the attic space caught fire and there was a series of explosions. i think the tires on the vehicle were popping, and the windows on the house blew out. pretty intense for a while. >> crews tried figuring the fire from above but couldn't stop it. this is all that could be saved. >> my insulin, my needles, my test strips. >> haul quickly remembered what was lost. >> my parents just passed away,

expected to be contained by monday. an area the size of san francisco, 43 square miles, has been burned. the fire is now 56% contained. more than 2,000 firefighters are on the lines, including several strike teams from the bay area. at 11:30, what's making a difference for the firefighters. >> cooler weather is help something firefighters tonight. let's head right to leigh glaser for the first check on the weather. >> leigh: the low clouds and fog, live doppler 7hd right now picking that up. as you look how i wouldspread that is. we had a nice wind shift this afternoon from the warm offshore winds to a cooler onshore wind component, and we have an area of low pressure. now to the east of the sierra, that is actually bringing moisture from east to west, and you can see towards red plus, an isolated shower. and southern california. a wind shift today from the warm offshore winds to onshore.

points in several cities, including san francisco and fremont. two people died an head-on traffic collision in eastern contra costa county this afternoon. a blue subaru traveling on eastbound 9 'near brentwood ran into a tree. the two people killed were riding in the siewb rule. one -- the subaru. one died at the crash site and the other died aat a local trauma center. >> investigators in calaveras county or knocking on the doors of homes this weekend looking for clues that will load them to leila fowler's 0 killer. he search for her killer has been a tough process with few credible leads, only a vague description provided be her brother. investigators are keeping a presence in the community in case the killer returns. >> i've seen a couple cars

patrol down here in the eveningtime and morningtime. i saw one this morning. so they're making the rounds. >> ama: detectives took several knives from the home to see they've could have been used in the murder. the. >> ama: a 30 years east palo alto man is in critical but stable condition after being shot. happened shortly after 9:00 this evening on cooley avenue. the victim was found on the street. police are going door-to-door to gather information. but no suspects or motive. new at 11:00, several passengers and crew aboard a cruise liner that docked in san francisco were quarintined after a suspected norovirus outbreak. 30 passengers and eight crew members on the crystal symphony started feeling the illness on tuesday. a spokesman for the cruises says all of them were kept onboard while the ship came to san francisco. it's next stop is santa barbara.

mateo bridge where there have been multiple fay tallities after a himow caught fire. lillian, what have you learned? >> we're on the san mateo county side of the bridge, and on the westbound lanes is where the limousine caught fire. five people inside were trapped and those five people did not survive. joining us now is officer jeff with the california highway patrol. what can you tell us? >> from what we know is the limousine was traveling westbound here on 92 on the bridge, and we got calls of smoke coming from the limousine. the limousine pulled over and then all of a sudden became engulfed in flames. there were ten occupants in the vehicle, possibly on their way to a dance. and five were able to escape the vehicle, and attempted to assist the others and were unable to get the other five out. so as of right now preliminary we have five that were trapped in the vehicle and cooperate get

wall of fog, low clouds clouds d drizzle already started and going to bring a significant cooling for your sunday afternoon. tomorrow will only be in the 70s. live shot here from the high definition rooftop cam, the embarcadero degreesy. sfo, gusts over 30 miles-per-hour out of the west. san francisco, downtown. 57. san jose, 56. 54 at half moon by. here's a look at the forecast. low clouds, fog, mist and drizzle return to the coast and bay. sharp drop in the temperatures sunday afternoon, and then introduce a chance of a few light showers moving in on monday and tuesday. lows overnight, mid-to-upper 40s in the north bay so a little cooler there as the marine influence moves in. 50s elsewhere and the low cloudiness and fog scattered across the bay area.

this is the setup. we're keeping a close eye on an area of low pressure that is going retrograde back towards the west ask it's going to have to pick up some moisture off the coast and move it inland so if you have plans tomorrow afternoon, the sierra nevada, get ready for a chance of showers, isolated thunderstorms. by monday morning the low tracks well off the coast, counterclockwise spin. any moisture off the coast is going to rotate towards the bay area. this forecast model may be overplaying this a little bit, but at least you get the sense we could possibly see some higher el vegas -- elevation showers and isolated thunderstorms, tomorrow, and tuesday morning, but you'll notice the cooler air mass settling over the bay area. check out these numbers. san jose, tomorrow, 70 degrees. going to feel like it. upper 50s at the coast. breezy conditions there.

>> ama: we go back to the breaking story we have been following. you're looking at live pictures from sky 7hd over the scene right now. you see the limousine right there, caught fire on the san mateo bridge, has killed five people. lisa amin gulezian has just arrived at the san mateo bridge toll mass a where traffic has been stopped. what are you seeing? >> lisa: we actually cannot even get to the toll plaza. we're here an exit at 92 westbound. take a look behind me. you can see that traffic is crawling because only one lane of traffic is open. the chp shut down westbound traffic because self miles away on the bridge itself at the decline is li that limo that cat

fire. westbound traffic beyond this point is shut down. it has been for 45 minutes. rescue crews are still working on the highway, which is why the cars are not allowed to go in that direction. i did see a chp car speed down the highway toward the toll plaza just a few minutes ago so there's a lot of activity on the highway, and you can see this backup. drives are asked to use the dumbarton bridge to get around, at least for the next several hours. lisa amin gulezian, abc7 news. >> ama: lillian kim is on the san mateo county side of the bridge. you just spoke with the chop -- chp. what can you tell us? >> i need to make one major clarification. a chp officer told us inside wereople inside were teenagers, teenagerr going to or coming back from the prom. that is wrong.

the people inside, all of them, all ten, are women, and they're believed to be in their 30s. we're on the san mateo county side of the san mateo bridge, and the limousine fire happened on the westbound lanes on, on the decline service. the chp says smoke started coming out of the rear of the limousine. the driver then pulled over and then the vehicle was quickly engulfed in flames. five passengers were able to escape. five others did not survive. of the five, four were taken to the hospital. >> four were transported, three with minor to moderate injuries, smoke inhalation, one with severe burns, and we have no idea where they were going or coming from, and that's is going on. >> two- of -- of the five peoplo did not survive, we have been

told that people are working on extricating their bodies right now. live, abc7 news. >> ama: we have learned that they were women in their 30s in the limo. in southern california, all residents forced to evacuate because of raging wildfires are being allowed to return home tonight. mother nature is helping firefighters control the fire northwest of los angeles. here's clayton sandell. >> moisture air and milder winds are helping to calm the wildfire that burn more than 43 square miles in southern california in a couple of days. >> to have a fire that burn more than 28,000 acres in a short amount of time in may is something we dent see very often in california. so today the relief in the weather is a relief for firefighters. >> flames still threaten homes. remarkably no homes have been lost and only 15 have been damaged. >> these firemen did a tremendous job. so, very, very thankful for

>> ama: we're taking our live picture over the san mateo bridge where we have some following breaking news. you can see a fire engine there and it's very dark but you can see the charred remains of a limousine right there. five people inside the limo died after a fire broke out in the back of the limousine. five others managed to escape the flames. four were taken to hospitals. the chp told us that the people on board were all women in their 30s. the fire was first reported just after 10:00 tonight. the coroner has been called to the scene to remove the bodies of the people who were unable to escape, and the traffic note for you, one lane of westbound 92 has been re-opened after the entire direction of the bridge was closed. we're taking a look from the ground and you can see the backed up traffic as they're
